Humph. Now I wonder what would happen if Harry and Ginny were Slytherins and Hermione was a Ravenclaw. Meanie. It was funny to see the interactions between Godric and Salazar, though!

'"Don't try to sound insulted, Godric. Honestly, between the Parselmouth and the Weasley, I may not speak to you for the rest of the year!"
"Do you promise?"'

'"'Not Slytherin. Anything but Slytherin'," Salazar quoted in a high voice. "Honestly, what did I do to deserve THAT?"
"Do you want that alphabetically, categorically, or chronologically?"' Very funny lines. I needed that after some of the more...depressing stories on here. (i.e. Sirius is trapped between life and death forever)

Hahaha, very funny. I'll never think of the Sorting Hat the same way again! Ahh, you got me! :D Some parts seemed to drag out a bit, but all in all, a very pleasant and humorous take on the sorting, in my opinion... definitely very creative... ;)

This is TOTALLY hilarious. I laughed all the way through! Love the witty humour, love the idea of the Founders bickering in the hat, and all the little details from canon you throw in, like the “little boy that wanted to be Minister for Magic” and would have made a perfect Slytherin, and the fact that Salazar isn’t at all happy about the way his Heir turned out! You write their conversation so vividly, I could totally see them arguing, which made all the references to the fact that there *is* nothing to be seen even more hilarious. I’d quote my favourite lines, but I can’t decide which ones to pick, so instead of quoting the whole story back at you – thank you Andrea for giving me such a series of good laughs! Gotta check out the sequel…

This is a wonderful new take on the inner workings of the Sorting Hat. The banter among the voices of the Founders is a joy to read, and I love how you fleshed out some very minor characters in the story such as Terry Boots and Teagan Nott. In the end, I even felt rather sorry for poor Salazar who missed on Harry and the Weasley twins before him.

Oh, this is brilliant! It was recommended over on the "Have You Read a Fic Like This?" thread, and I'm so glad I followed the link! I love seeing the Founders' good-natured bickering. Nice to see the "pre-break-up" Slytherin, too; you make it quite plausible that the other three would have liked this man well enough to found a school with him. Interesting choice to make the Founders only "ask" the student when there's a disagreement; it jarred me a little, but I think I like it. In short, a delightflu piece!

<<Honestly, between the Parselmouth and the Weasley, I may not speak to you for the rest of the year!>>

I know people have already said it, but I would love to see a MMWP sorting. It would be interesting to see what happens with Sirius, considering his background.

Anyway, great job!! Keep writing!

I love this, it's so hilarious!
I liked especially the characterizations of the founders. They are like good old friends, bickering with each other, but always remaining friends. And you made Salazar not evil – yeah! (He was my favourite in the fic) The founders WERE friends, after all, and I doubt they would have been friends with an evil overlord.
Neville daring to discuss with the hat – I knew, there was more to him than what meets the eye. :)

I enjoyed the whole fic immensely, but there were a couple of lines, I enjoyed most:

"They're my prejudices, I've had them for a thousand years now, and I'm quite happy with them!" he snapped in reply. "Besides, I tried a halfblood fifty years ago, and look how THAT turned out!"

"Which would be why you barricaded yourself in the library for a full year to figure out how to deal with that upstart wizard in the next town?"
"I found the solution in the end, didn't I?"
"AFTER I'd already dealt with him!"
"You accidentally knocked him off a cliff!"
"It worked, didn't it?"

"FINE! Take him, then. I hope he loses twenty points a DAY for you!"

"'Not Slytherin. Anything but Slytherin'," Salazar quoted in a high voice. "Honestly, what did I do to deserve THAT?"
"Do you want that alphabetically, categorically, or chronologically?"

OK, I'll stop now before I quote the whole story ;)

Great work! Keep it up!

Oh, fabulous! I love this take on the Founders. This had me nearly in stitches - all the bickering is priceless. I think Salazar is my favourite, but I also love the way you portray Helga. She's definitely a Hufflepuff, but no 'duffer.' It's really refreshing to see a great portrayal of her, since she's so sadly unappreciated (along with the rest of her house) in the fandom.

Another thing I really like is how you show that the students have qualities that fit all the houses, but it's the choices and the foremost trait that makes the biggest difference. I'm of the opinion that Percy should have been a Slytherin, but the part about the Weasley family upbringing makes sense.

One thing I wish you would've done is shown the thoughts when Sorting Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle. I think they're not exactly good examples of the house at all, and C & G especially embody the fact that Slytherins aren't always ambitious, but can sometimes just be big and mean. I wonder what Salazar thinks of this sad fact.

Lovely fic! I'm definitely going to read the sequel :)

Salazar Slytherin is a sadly mal-treated character. He WAS one of the four founders and this would make one suspect that in some way he was not the first dark wizard.

Rather that he might be a sneakier than usual good guy. Perhaps acting more like Dumbledore and insisting to give information away only when he needed to.

Ambition, wanting power is not necesarily bad things if you are competent enough to wield that power and can grasp it without destroying those around you...

Brilliant!! The four Founders had me laughing out loud. Their enthusiasm for the Sorting and the way that they welcome each child was so wonderful. Even Salazar and his comments about Muggle-borns were endearing. His comment about Tom Riddle made me want to applaud, so I did.)

I loved your descriptions of all of the Founders. Helga "like a mother who refused to grow up," refined Rowena, brash Godric, and Salazar who speaks with a bit of a hiss.

Poor Helga and Salazar, I felt sorry for both of them, when they heard some of the students' thoughts about their respective houses. Hermione's and Neville's Sortings were so perfect and marvelous!! I loved the way that everyone fought over them, and Neville talked back! Good for you, Neville!! (Loved Godric's comment about how Neville's gran scares HIM.) And Salazar's joy over finding Harry made me want to hug him! I thought that you couldn't top that bit, but then you did, with the way that the Founders reacted to Ron. "His chief ambition right now is a new set of robes, Salazar." That was so adorable!

(Hmm, Salazar seemed so set on a Weasley of his own, I wonder how he reacted to Ginny? Have you thought about writing a sequel?)

This was brilliant, I LOVED it! Imaginative, original, wonderfully written, and utterly hilarious! I am printing it out right now and adding it to my three-ring binder of favorite fanfics. Neville, Ron, and Hermione were great, and the reactions to the students they want not wanting them are priceless, especially Slytherin's losing Harry. The only thing missing that I wish you had done are Crabbe and Goyle--probably NONE of the founders wanted those two. :) And you have to do a sequel if you can invent enough original characters to fill it; I'd love to hear what they had to say about other classes, especially Gred & Forge's year.

This was such and AWESOME story! And funny too. Great work. Heh, Salazar didn't get that last Weasley after all, did he?

I was pleasantly surprised by that. What fun! The four founders sounded like people I know--friends but bickering to the end. Great job!

Oh, and my name's Andrea, too.

There were so many quotes to love in this piece that I could only write down a few of them. I absolutely adore the way you portrayed each of the Founders fighting over the students. You also managed to keep them true to canon and yet fun. I liked Salazar in spite of myself.

<<"Helga, you can't kill me. I'm just a disembodied mind," Godric said swiftly. "It's not my fault, honestly!"

"WHY is it," Helga asked in a low and deadly voice, "that everyone seems to have gotten the idea that MY House -- my loyal, hard-working students -- is full of 'duffers', I believe that one boy put it? HONESTLY! Oh, be quiet and stop arguing, boy. You clearly don't deserve to be in MY House."

"He's arguing with the Sorting Hat. The Hat that was created by the Founders themselves." Salazar sounded incredibly amused. "Oh yes, he definitely belongs in Godric's house of idio--er, bravery." A mostly-stifled snicker. "Absolutely."

"Oh shut up, snake boy."

"...Dear, you might want to take the Hat OFF now," Rowena suggested gently. "Honestly. This is why he clearly isn't a Ravenclaw." >>

This is the finest explanation of why Neville took so long that I have ever seen. I LOVED the idea of him bickering with the hat, Helga being so offended, Salazar's comment, and then the last with Rowena -- so funny and sweet at the same time!

<<"You took the twins! You took the little boy who wanted to be Minister of Magic. Fine, I'll give you the dragon tamer -- that kind of stupidity can only come from a Gryffindor -- but you can't have them ALL! This one is very ambitious.">>

Fighting over Ron! Yet it makes sense. And I love the idea of Godric claiming the little boy who wanted to be minister of magic. Really lovely.

Sorry this review is so scattered but I am typeing as I think of things. I love the fight over Hermione, the argument over Harry, and the battle for the Patils. Very fun. Poor Salazar desperate for his Parselmouth! And the whole, "I let in a halfblood fifty years ago ..." was SO great. I loved it!

Now I want to hear Ginny's sorting!

This was very funny. I loved the way the founders argued. Could you do some others years, IE MWPP, Ginny's year... etc.

Nicely done - I really liked Slytherin's reaction to Harry's request to go anywhere but Slytherin House. Too funny!
