This was...brilliant. I really loved it. Very very in character. I ALMOST felt sorry for Peter, all left alone. And I'm normally an avid Peter-hater.

Mwahaah! That was so twisted and evil at the end! I love fics that explore peter's phsyce. This one really nailed it.

Beautiful Peter-fic! it's so appropriate the way he's feeling replaced by the map, and a good explanation for how filch got it. But did Lupin eventually find out what Peter did? because he said that he knew for a fact that it had been confiscated in the book.

You have a lovely prose style, and your characterizations are good too. (Especially Peter)

unapologetic peter fan

This is an interesting take on the dynamics of the Marauders' relationship--and a very interesting answer to the question of "How did MWPP lose the Marauders' Map?" I have one criticism to make, however, and it is a serious one. We know that Peter is not in the same league as James, Sirius, and Remus, talent-wise; we know that he will eventually betray his friends. It is not necessary to beat us over the head with his contemptibility:

<<"an unpleasant little voice hissed in his mind that he...was a weak, worthless, pathetic little thing...>>

<<"the others had wasted hours trying to teach him the spells he was too stupid to learn">>

<<"the pathetic git he was">>

<<"the smallest, the stupidest, and the most cowardly">>

<<"They had never wanted to be friends with him.">>

<<"...he had no redeeming qualities of his own. He was just dull, stupid Peter...">>

<<"He was far too weak and pitiful.">>

I suspect this is meant to be the voice of Peter's self-loathing, but this leitmotif is repeated so many times that it seems like the authorial voice, as if you wanted to make sure that we the readers didn't forget to despise Peter sufficiently. Instead, by the end of the story I was perversely applauding Wormtail for his initiative.

It's odd having read this before it was posted... This ficlet is quite creepy and disturbing, just like the Death Day scene in CoS. *shudders* I haven't read that scene again since the first time I read CoS, and I don't think I'll be reading this ficlet again either. So in other words, this is as good as that scene in canon with respect to disturbing the heck out of me. *shudders again.*

Nicely written! The way you've drawn Peter, clearly sets him up for his later actions. And it's believable. He doesn't start out as a bad guy, his insecurity and paranoia deive him there. Good job!

Probably the best and more accurate fic that I've read about Peter ever ...

Reviewid: 51664Chapter: 1 so shocked. i never even suspected the Rat would even do such a thing.
Stupid little...they were his friends! If they didn;t want him there, they would not have let him stay near them. Rat is so selfish, I'm disgusted.
But great story, i really like it. This is going on my favorites list!
Oooh I really dislike Peter...

Very chilling look at the inside of Peter's head. If I didn't know better, I might have felt sorry for him! But then you showed so well how obsessed he became with getting rid of the map, and how obsessed he was with someday making them depend on him "with their very lives," and any pity I may have felt in the beginning was sucked right out. Very believable idea of how the map was lost!

What are you talking about 3 times, it's more like 20 times... :P

Anyways. Hehe, it's up! It's up! 'He that Hateth' is a very interesting delve into Peter's twisted psych. I love the way he's portrayed through a variety of facets, as a snivelling brat, a scheming jerk, and a misunderstood, pathetic little boy; all of them are vital to Peter's personality, and all of them are well written. At the end of the story, I'm always torn between "poor Peter"... and *shiver*...
