Wow. Damn good again. Gotta love Alex's opinion of the Weasleys, general snarkishness and sheer style. How's this for Sinistra's challenge?
Astronomy's a load of bunk
We're forced to use outdated junk
To find the plane of the ecliptic
By a professor syphilitic
Whose manky robes smell like a skunk.

Not bad for an on-the-spot special. I liked Hermione's musings on textbooks - it defeats me how JKR, a reasonably talented classicist, can bear to give all her characters such disdain for History. Dull teachers are why there's a textbook. Nice to see someone [a Slytherin no less] redressing the balance. KUTGW.

< Claps > Oh that is wonderful!

I thought Prof. Sinistra's challenge would be unanswerable, you proved me wrong splendedly. :-)

I'm glad you liked it. It was really an experiment - playing with third person. But I liked the way it turned out. It's just about how infernally dull Christmas is if you happen to be on your own. Being in Hogwarts wouldn't change that.

Hermione Granger as viewed by Alex Sutton ... something you don't see every day. Would it be too much to ask for a guest appearance by Hermione in _Death Eater's Snithch_ ? Mostly, though, what I like about this story is its unhurried quality, a quiet momentin the life of two people for whom these are rare.

But here, meanwhile is my entry for Professor Sinistra's contest:

Jupiter, Venus, and Mars
Do wander amidst the fixed stars.
In the plane of the’lliptic
this heavenly triptych
tells of glory, of love, and of wars.

I found this story highly enjoyable. It was interesting to get an alternating perspective. Alexandra sounds quite a bit like myself. I hope you continue writing more fanfics... Now I must get started on the rest of your series.

I love your take on Snape - he WOULD ruin everyone's holidays with threats and mock OWLs. And the past papers that Alex is revising with are perfect. That whole bit took me right back to my O Levels! I'd never thought of Alex as the "sullen faced Slytherin" in PoA - it's amazing what you can get from one line in a book! I really enjoyed Derek the card sharp - and poor Adrian loosing all his christmas stash of goodies in one afternoon of Poker. So funny to see both Hermione and Alex (of all people)BOTH wrong-footed by their assumptions about the other's blood - but I like the idea that Hermione had someone to talk to during all those hours in the library when she couldn't talk to either of those daft boys! (and I have no difficulty in believing that she was quite capable of helping Alex revise properly for her OWLs). Keep writing about Alex - and in particular (hopeless romantic that I am)I still want to know what happened with Stebbins at the Yule Ball! Cheers. Paula

Enjoyed this story very much. The bit about the Sphinx's trial made me laugh out loud, and I hope you will be continuing your other story about Alex.
