Mr.Roberts: No, Voldemort didn't "make" the dementors, per se. They made themselves. I had a theory that perhaps dementors are deceased Dark wizards. Snape says something in Harry's first Potions class about being able to "stopper death". Voldemort also says several books later that he has "taken steps to guard against a mortal death". So what happens when such a wizard "dies"? Suppose their souls don't go through the veil (like Sirius) but instead stay with their corpses. Perhaps they would be similar to Inferi, but would retain much or all of their former personality (and perhaps their former power as well?) And perhaps the dementors are always hungry because they are trying to get back the full measure of their former life, or at least a fleeting taste of it. Perhaps this is what Dumbledore is talking about in the battle at the Ministry when he warns Voldemort that there are worse fates than death.
Well, maybe all that's a little far-fetched, but I thought it made for an interesting story. |
