This is soooo wonderful... it totally holds true with me, too. I can picture these things, and though it might sound a little silly, my mind registers automatically when I hear the name 'Lily' or 'James' even if they're referring to the flower. I could never have said it so beautifully, but it's totally true-- in writing about them, in making up things, we DO have a friendship with these characters, and we know them SO well.
Thank you so much for writing this.

| Wow. Your little essay thing here really made me think about every MWPP/L fic that I've ever read, and it made me sad. I've written some "old generation" fanfiction, and when I think about what will happen to them is sad. When I'm writing about James and Lily meeting, I forget that in a couple of years they will die defending their son. When I write about Sirius pulling practical jokes, I forget that he will spend twelve years in hell for no reason at all. When I write about Remus being thankful for friendship, I forget that he will lose nearly all of his friends in one night. And Peter. When I write about him, I have to remember that he is not evil, yet. That he didn't do anything wrong, yet. It's very emotional and almost hard to deal with. I know where you're coming from when you wrote this. And I just wrote way too much here. Thanks for posting this! |
