This is a wonderful piece. You have masterfully explored the connections between fear, anger, and hatred. Some of the lines that struck me were:

"All of Slytherin was placed under scrutiny, not so much officially as discriminately by other students. His lip curled in a bitter, disdainful sneer. Had to be a Slytherin gone bad, hadn't it?"

This brings up the question of whether the other houses' intense dislike for the Slytherins forces them into a corner and inadvertently leads to their embracing of the Dark Arts.

"Danger was imminent, the very halls of Hogwarts were no longer as safe as they once were, but it was not evil curses or Dementors or a man in a sweeping black cloak come to collect a debt. The danger, he realized, was giving in to fear."

That hit the nail on the head. The danger is never external, but internal. It is how we react to outside threats that determine our destiny.

I've noticed that you have not posted any new stories on the Quill for quite some time. I hope that you'll continue writing and sharing your talents with us.
